Research Document Implies March Samsung Galaxy S IV Launch, Describes Specs

Some alleged benchmarks and test images uploaded to Picasa trying to depict one aspect or the other of the Samsung Galaxy S IV and it now appears that more reports are weighing in, not only on the future possible specs, but also on launch and availability dates.

According to the image above the 2013 Samsung flagship will purportedly feature a five-inch Full HD display (we previously heard of 4.99-inches, but it’s all the same), Samsung’s own Exynos 5440 SoC, 2GB of RAM, and Android 4.2 on-board. It is expected to be revealed next month, in March, or at least that’s what the info pictured above claims, pretty much in-line with previous rumors.

The initial document, in the source link below, seems to be a research result, so treat it accordingly. However, with more and more rumors indicating approximately the same thing, it becomes likely to happen.

Ubuntu touch developer preview coming to Nexus 4 and Galaxy Nexus on February 21st

At CES, we showed you a demo of Ubuntu for smartphones running on a Galaxy Nexus, and it now appears that intrepid developers will be able to obtain their own build as of next Thursday, February 21st.

While the finished product will run on its own hardware, these early developer builds for touch devices are designed for Android devices, specifically the Nexus 4 and Galaxy Nexus. Developers will be able to download and flash the software to these phones to aid in the creation of apps using the preview SDK.

The SDK, which is built atop of the latest Qt framework, comes with tutorials and design guidelines to ensure developers create beautiful, functional apps. As for casual users, it looks like there won’t be much to the installation process, though it will be a little more involved than flashing a custom Android ROM.

We’ll do our best to get a hands-on with the new mobile operating system as soon as possible, but in the meantime check out our preview from CES after the break.

Huawei Ascend W1 coming to O2 UK in March

O2 has become the first British network to confirm it would sell the Ascend W1 – Huawei’s only Windows Phone 8 device.

O2 will launch the W1 in an Electric Blue color version first, sometime in March. Towards the end of the month, an Electric Pink version will also be available. Both should be free on contract (with select plans).

The W1 is one of the cheapest WP8 handsets on the market. Its features include a 4 inch WVGA IPS display, 3G, Wi-Fi, GPS, 5MP rear camera, VGA front-facing camera, 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 512MB of RAM, 4GB of internal memory, MicroSD card support, and a 1,950 mAh battery.

O2′s current Windows Phone 8 portfolio includes just two devices: the HTC 8X and the HTC 8S. The network will also launch the Lumia 620 pretty soon.

In less than two weeks from now (at MWC 2013), Huawei will announce its second Windows Phone 8 device, the Ascend W2. Unlike the W1, this is a high-end device, featuring a 4.5 inch HD display, 8MP rear camera, dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, 16GB of internal memory, and a 2,800 mAh battery. The W2 could be only 7.7mm thin, thus becoming the thinnest WP8 handset ever.
